Pinocchio Lizard- Interesting Story
3

Hi I was fortunate to spend a month in Mindo, Ecuador birdwatching. We met some scientists from the university that were studying this lizard. This lizard was first discovered in 1953. In the 1960's it was presumed extinct. It was rediscovered in 2005. The species had been officially sighted only three times since that year until 2013 when researchers found evidence of a breeding colony in the remote regions of Ecuador. One of these breeding populations turned out to be near our cabin. They collected the lizards at night to study and photograph the next day. They were returned to the wild. Bruce
