On the older Nex cameras you had to hold the camera steady for both OSS and AF to do their work. This technique may still be required for the A6000. If you 'point and shoot' too fast, neither the AF nor OSS may have gotten a proper lock, leaving you with a default focus and an image from a 'camera in flight'.

OSS helps with handheld stability, not AF speed.

I have not (yet) seen the A6000 exhibit this behavior, but I make sure that the camera is steady prior to pressing the shutter button.

Oh, and, since the Nex-7, if you press too hard, you may rotate the camera body during capture. This due to the lightness of the camera, and the EVF being in one corner and the Shutter Button being in the other - it works as a lever. This can be another explanation for a new shooter.

It should be visible in all modes though...
