Aperture value 'flashing' in S mode with ND filter.

I came across this curious behavior just now which I am unsure about.

i am using sel35f1.8 on a very bright sunny day. I am setting ISO100 & S 1/160

the camera is focusing on some plants on my patio & showing 1/160 f8 - no problem.

i added an ND8 filter & the scene changes to 1/160 f3.2 - that's fine & the desired effect ~ However, the aperture setting f3.2 is flashing. Now, I am used to seeing this in low light situations where the aperture cannot go any wider, so what is the meaning of this here?
