I think the SD550 is my all-time favorite camera mainly because it came along about the time I started really getting into my photography. I was really impressed then with its output: checking out 9 year old images I still am--its lens clarity, it's sharpness, its exposure. The Sd700 is a mini-legend as well and I bet some here still have one around. The SD1000 was small, very fast, a joy to use.

OTOH, it's 2014. Is all my looking fondly at images from long gone cameras just a useless exercise? All of these cameras and more (SD880, SD900--hey, check out my username!) are still available on Ebay, but, really, are modern Canon point and shoots superior in every way?

No useless exercise at all.
Taking pictures at low ISO with a CCD sensor still its a challenge for CMOS to achieve same quality.
At base ISO with good light G10 is capable of capturing more detail and better DOF then the latest G cameras.
CMOS cameras may also have more problems displaying nice tone skin colors so some people are still using old CCD cameras for portrait pictures.
