Am I doing something wrong with my A7R?

That's a rhetorical question, but one I've been asking myself since I picked up a second hand A7R. I think, despite myself I had managed to convince myself that if I liked the A7 (which I still do), I would like the A7R. I do love the results from the A7R, when in focus/sharp, but that's the problem.

My issues here largely revolve around lag and AF performance. I'm also not a fan of the lower flash sync speed. Its often a challenge getting cameras with CDAF to focus in low light (I had an X-Pro1, I remember how slow it was on the initial firmware). I also know that the 36 MP sensor requires excellent shot discipline (I also own a D800E), but even if you do patiently take your time, the A7R can let you down where the A7 seems fine.

I tend to shoot in A mode, controlling ISO manually, with the smallest focus point and face detection switched on (I use identical settings on my A7, and get decent results in all but the most grotty lighting).

I never sold my Sony A7 and I think the A7R will be going back to eBay unless I can figure it out soon. I read about how many people prefer the A7R to the A7 and I'm mystified as to why to be honest.

Any ideas? It's quite conceivable I'm just doing the wrong thing here.
