converting my manfrotto 498rc2 to arca swiss - question
Jul 4, 2014

this looks simple and easy to do;

if i convert my ball-head, do i need anything additional to use the following kirk lens colllars?

kirk 70-200mm f/4 --

kirk 300mm f/4 --

i honestly don't understand the warning/recommendation attached to the kirk 300mm f/4 collar, "Use of this lens collar with Arca flip lock mounts, while possible, will not yield optimal performance and is not recommend. Use with a Kirk quick release or mount an additional Arca plate to the bottom of the collar for Arca mounts."  i'm not familiar with arca swiss entirely, but i'm researching and attempting to move to it, but despite the overall consensus that arca swiss is predominantly standardized, there seems to be enough variation with arca-swiss compatible gear to give me fits (especially since i've not handled or used any of it yet).

i'd simply like to know if that arca-swiss clamp on the conversion kit will lock onto the kirk collars without any additional pieces/plates.  if so, can you guys recommend a good camera base plate that i can use as well.
