Keep 70-200 f4 IS + 135L or upgrade to 70-200 f2.8 IS II
2 months ago

Not too long ago I replaced my Nikon kit with a Canon 6D. The 24-105 f4 IS kit lens came with it along with a free 50 f1.8 II. I've since purchased a 70-200 f4 IS, 430 EX II, 17-40 f4, and more recently the 135 f2. Whilst I've been impressed with the 70-200 f4, I'm kind of kicking myself for not going for the f2.8 considering the combined cost of the 70-200 f4 IS & 135L f2 would've paid for the big bazooka.

Now my Mrs has said to get the f2.8 if I want it which is music to my ears I guess, but I really don't want to take advantage by spending unnecessarily if I'm not going to benefit massively from it.

As for what I use my kit for ... I photograph my kids as much as I can, events, parties, sports days, etc as well as candids and street photography when I'm in an interesting city.

I shot a kids birthday party indoors (first 2 images) a few weeks ago with the 70-200 f4 and was quite impressed with the results I got in what was variable light conditions and with plenty of motion. The last 2 images were at a model air show where I was constantly having to adjust the camera setup shooting both the flight action as well as what my kids and family were up to on the day.

I'm now starting to receive some small jobs to capture events for friends and friends-of-friends, mainly family functions with plenty of kids racing around indoors and out.

Anyway, your feedback would be appreciated on which way to go.
