Quattro arrives in Europe

I received mine from the Norwegian Sigma specialist FotoVideo today and thought I should give a heads up that it's appearing outside Japan...

Didn't have much time today for taking any shots worth closer inspection, but thought I should share my first impressions anyway since I've speculated a bit here myself...

The camera body: Even higher perceived quality than the Merrill which was already excellent. The two control dials are comfortable to use when holding the camera with two hands, only the front wheel is usable if you dare to go one-handed (not entirely impossible thanks to the grip).

Operation: Processing + Saving files is much faster than on Merrill, around half the time with a fast card. AF assist light allows you to focus at closer distances in total darkness.

Lots of smaller improvements in the various menus, including ability to select a different sharpness/saturation/contrast combination for every color mode. The aspect ratio selector in the Quick menu is my personal favorite.

Colors: Very saturated in Standard color mode, while Neutral is quite similar to Standard in the original DP2. More refined than Merrill IMHO (less desaturation effects), and again closer when comparing DP2Q Neutral to DP2M Standard.

Resolution: As mentioned in this forum, you want to reduce the noise reduction at low ISO in order to get most out of every pixel.

Sensitivity: A quick test indicates that SPP 6 can squeeze visibly cleaner results from DP2Q than DP2M at ISO 1600, but at the cost of some saturation. In-camera JPEGs are still not up to par with RAW at high ISO.

Still happy with today's shopping
