Portrait shooters - How do you focus?

I've been using my A7 for a couple of months now along with my A99 and the camera is growing on me, but there is one thing that keep frustrating me. How do I get perfect focus in the eyes? I really like to shoot pictures like the one below with shallow DOF and tack sharp eyes. With the A99 i find it quite easy, but with the A7 the eyes always become slightly out of focus.

I've been testing face reqognition which is okay, but the focus area is too big. I've also tested eye AF which I find pretty bad in every way.

I am an AF person when shooting portraits (I'm happy to use MF on static subjects). I also find this focus by wire quite annoying when using MF.

Anyone experienced the same issues who want to share their experience?

And for those who want to criticize the picture, that's fine, but I know it is over exposed and that WB is off, that was also my intension;-)
