70-210mm vs 28-300mm. Worth it?

In general I like the 70-210mm well enough for what it is.  Its a bit short for wildlife but it finds its way onto my D610 often enough.  Is the 28-300mm good enough for me to use it instead of the 24-85 and 28-300?  I like the 24-85.  My main complaints with the 210 are its contrast, lack of VR, IQ at 210, and length.  I realize that 210 to 300 isn't really going to give me much more reach.  Thoughts?  Save up for a better long lens or worthwhile purchase?

Thanks for the advice.
