If I were you I'd replace it, easily. To my mind the alternatives would be the water-resistant 35-100/2.8 (over $1000 US), or Oly's 40-150 that's not out yet and likely would cost even more (aside from either having more mass).

As for losing the filter. . . . I've lost countless lens caps, dropped one or two CP's in water where they couldn't be retrieved, but I still find it hard to believe I lost a 7-14 lens a few years ago. That is, it could always be worse.
