Selecting a Neutral Density Filter(s)

I'm in the market for my first ND filter and thought I should start here.

I'm using a D800E with a variety of lenses in landscape photos.  I live in Nebraska, so many of my shots involve a field and a sky with a straight line between the two.  I shoot a fair number of sunsets as well.

Based on that, I'm thinking a hard edged graduated filter might be best.

As I'm new to this and not sure if I'll be using this a lot, I don't want to spend to the upper limits, but I don't want a cheap piece of glass either.  I'm hoping to buy something mid range that will do the job and keep me happy in the future.  If I find I use it a lot, I can always upgrade.

So with those considerations, what would you recommend for a graduated and full ND filter?

Thanks
