Why turn off IBIS?

From time to time contributors to this forum report they turn off the IBIS in their m43 cameras while taking photos.  The contributors often state this, but usually they don't explain why.  Other than saving the charge in the camera's battery, I am not sure of the advantage(s) of switching off the IBIS (or OIS in stabilized lenses).  Back in my Nikon days I remember this was discussed in the Nikon forums on this site, and the reason had to do with shutter speeds.  And if my memory is correct, I believe Thom Hogan advocated not using OIS with shutter speeds over 1/500 of a second.  Is this the reason for shutting off IBIS/OIS in m43 cameras and lenses, or are their other considerations?
