Making a mistake getting the 600mm f4 if already have the 80-400mm G ?

Hi,

Been considering getting the Nikon 600mm f4 lens for a while as a Prime lens to go alongside my new 80-400mm G lens for Birds / Game. The main concern has been the cost of the lens. Today I could not believe it when an elderly Pro, due to the weight difference, traded-in his mint-condition hardly used 600mm for the lighter 800mm f5.6 . I checked out the lens on my D800.

Second hand 600mm's are so difficult to come across especially being in mint condition and what a difference cost wise between this and a new lens. I grabbed the lens which they're keeping for me until the payment goes through by the end of the week.

There are many parks only an hour or so away from where I am including the Lion Park, Rhino & Elephant park , Cheetah park ....etc where I could use the 600mm as well as the 80-400mm.

If one already has the 80-400mm G lens, do you think it was worthwhile getting the 600mm ?

- below are a few hand-held shots taken last weekend using the 80-400mm on the D800.

Thanks,

Adrian
