I have to agree with above poster about DOF of 70-200 F4 on APS-C sensors. It seems you really should use it on a FF sensor for decent shallow DOF out of F4 aperture.

That is right. I was talking about F4 and the APS-C sensor.

When I want subject isolation I look for something like these that took as examples.  This is part of a tree from a good 20+ feet away and the next is a bird feeder.
