EM10 and 12-40 question.
Jun 17, 2014

I am sure that this has been asked before (probably by me LOL) but am curious about users impressions/feelings of the EM-10/12-40 combo - primarily how it feels.

I moved from 4/3 to m4/3 primarily because I loved the fact I could get great IQ in a smaller/lighter package. I love the EM10 and most of my lenses (aside from some old Zuikos and the 40-150) are either primes or small zooms (like the 14-42IIR and the 14-42EZ Pancake). But I love the IQ I have seen from the 12-40 lens, but don't know if I really want to "deal" with the added size/weight. (And certainly don't want to add a grip to the EM10 to make the 12-40 feel more comfortable to handle - that would totally defeat the purpose of the smaller body in my mind.)

My two favorite travel zooms - when I shot 4/3 - were the 14-54 and the 12-60, both of which were larger/heavier than the 12-40, but were also being used on larger bodies (last one was the E30).

So - to those who have actually shot with this combo on a regular basis (remember NO GRIP) - how does it feel to you? Do you feel that using a lens that is almost the same weight of the body sort of defeats the idea of a smaller body (if I had the EM1, I would have had the 12-40 already)?

Thanks, Steve
