Help me decide XE-1 or XE-2 plus 18-55 kit lens for a walkabout candid street/travel cam
Jun 16, 2014

I'm a Canon DSLR, and MFT shooter, interested in either the Fuji XE-1/XE-2 with 18-55 zoom as an IQ upgrade from MFT for light travel kit. I don't use my Canon's much if I need or want to travel light, and travel with MFT Panny GX1.

I am not too familiar with the Fuji XE's.

I have read Fuji Jpegs are great, but not so great for shooting video clips. Do you agree? Beside snaps, I also take short "memory type" videos when I travel. Why is video capture considered not good? Is that going to be a deal breaker? The videos I shoot are nothing professional quality.

So, can you recommend one over the other? For travel. Light kit. One lens: 18-55 zoom only. Maybe add a small wireless flash. That's it. Carry nothing else.

What should I consider before purchasing?

Any other  reputable online blogs or review sites besides DPR that you can direct me to?

Price @ B&H photo:

  • XE-1 with 18-55. $700
  • XE-2 with 18-55. $1200

Thanks for any advice and recommendation one to get.
