So many pictures that I take require the shadows lifting in order to make the shot work and in many cases it requires a very minimal tweak on the sliders to have a dramatic effect. Why?

If the tweak is that small couldn’t the same effect be achieved in camera?

There is more to this than just me having underexposed isn’t there?

Should I be overexposing rather than my tendency to underexposure
