New D4s owner questions - XQD vs CF; raw files processing
11 months ago

Hi D4/D4s owners,

Have a D4s on the way. Couple of questions - which will appreciate your thoughts on:

1. Raw file processing: Currently have Lightroom 4/Photoshop CS 6. I use both in my workflow - lightroom for cataloging and global adjustments - CS6 for local adjustments.

Does Adobe add new camera support for older lightroom versions like LR4? I guess not. If so - is upgrading to the Photoshop creative cloud program ($10 per month for limited time) my only option for getting D4s raw file support for lightroom (in the future)? Other option I guess is just upgrading to lightroom 5 & keep working with CS6. Assumption - Adobe will add D4s support to LR5 shortly.

2. XQD vs CF:

- wanted to know if the XQD cards are really that much faster as compared to the fastest compact flash cards? As the specs below suggest - 180 MB/s vs 155 MB/s does not seem to be significantly faster compared to the price difference. I am wondering if I should skip buying an XQD card for D4s - if I do not worry about using the second card as a backup.

Sony XQD S series - transfer speeds upto 180 MB/s

Lexar XQD - minimum read speeds of 168MB/s and write speeds of 155MB/s

Lexar 1066x compact flash (I have these already) - read speeds of up to 160 MB/s and data write speeds of up to 155 MB/s

Source of the info:

Sony XQD S:

Lexar XQD:

Lexar 1066 compact flash:
