What color is this feather?

The feather’s from a North American Crow, so technically it’s black. (Quickly shot with a DP3, in direct sunlight, converted in SPP with no alterations.)

If you look at the image at 100%, you can see what look like multi-colored hot pixels, particularly in the lower-right portion of the image. (The purple-green hues at the top are pretty much true to life, so don’t even go there….)

My question is, are those distant-planet-like hot spots a function of the mirror-ball like effect of the feather’s natural iridescence? Or is it a function of the Foveon layers?

I’m inclined to go with the former, but I’d like more knowledgeable opinions.
