Sigma 18-35 F1.8 focusing issues and lack of image stabilization

I am looking at getting the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 but i am a little concerned about the focusing issues that the lens has. As having a image that is not in focus could be the difference between a WOW shot and a Meh shot i am asking what your experiences are with the lens with regards to focusing and if it has been a problem or not.

I am also interested to know whether the lack of image stabilization is been a problem. My kit lens has image stabilization and i am not sure if I will miss the lack of image stabilization on the Sigma and whether that will be a problem.

I am very tempted by the lens but if the focusing issues are a real problem then i probably look at a different lens for my main lens.

Thanks
