Sigma's 18-35 f/1.8. why?
Jun 12, 2014

I know there have been many threads on this lens, usually commenting on it's quality of IQ, build etc. I am just wondering, in light of many comments that have been made about this lens not being wide enough at 18mm & not long enough at 35mm. [Long enough & wide enough being subjective, of course] If this is true, why did Sigma make the lens with such an "odd" F/L? It does seem that it has a very limited usage, like nighttime or indoors. I wish it went to around the 50 mark, as 18 would be ok for the quite spacious interiors I usually shoot. Would it not have been better to make it a very fast 18-50/55, rather than a very limiting 18-35? Would making it into a 50/55 made it even heavier than it is? Just a thought that came to me while looking for a fast indoor prime.
