D800, lots of details, Twin Peaks/ SF, photo issue

Hello,

Back from some days in SF, I have issues with pictures of the bay taken from Twin Peaks.

City building details are completely ugly.

Here, below, is a 100% crop of what I see.

Anyone already had this same issue, can someone help me understand the problem. Is it maybe related to high frequency information? Can it be related to the famous fog, that was starting to cover the city at this moment? Or another enironment issue, air temperature?
