tormented by a gnat
There is an active Cooper's Hawk nest next to a trail I often hike. Last week while photographing the chicks and mom with my K3+1.4xAW+DA*300, the father landed on a branch between me and the nest.
This is a ferocious predator of birds who currently is hunting for himself, his mate, and 4 chicks and he has just delivered some food to his nest. However, while sitting there to take a short rest, a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher started strafing this much larger bird.
The gnatcatcher landed in a branch above the Cooper's head while the Cooper's looked around for him.
Then it seemed that the gnatcatcher started bragging about how he was able to buzz the hawk.
The female Cooper's Hawk flew out of their nest to see what was going on:
Soon after, the hawk had enough and flew away.
