D5300 Burst mode functioning poorly in low light - why?
Jun 6, 2014

There may be a very simple answer or solution to this issue, but I haven't found one yet.

I recently upgraded to a Nikon D5300, and I've noticed that both High and Low continuous burst modes struggle to work in low light. I discovered this while shooting a concert - sometimes I could only get one shot of the performer. It would happen sporadically, but I'd hold down the shutter button and it wouldn't shoot multiple shots. Then I'd have to refocus, hold the shutter again, and hope it took more than one shot. I also experienced the same issue shooting at a bar outside at night. However, once I got into an area with more light, burst mode worked perfectly.

I find this weird because I never had this happen with my D3000.

Is there a reason or simple fix for this?
