No one forces you to shoot head shots with this lens.

30mm focal length is pretty wide, and, when shooting close to your subject to get that nice creamy background, you will also get a helping of facial distortion. This is one of the reasons why most portrait lenses used by portrait photographers run at around 85mm or more (in 35mm equiv.)... not just to get more bokeh, but to also reduce facial distortion by not having to physically get too close to the subject.

Yes, and no body says you should use it to shoot head shots on a regular basis. The point is that when you can and need to throw the background out of focus, this lens will return you with a creamy bokeh, which is not generally a strength of most wider lens. It is a feature that you can explore, and it does not mean you have to now use it to take head shots, instead of using a much longer lens. If you look at the sample images on line taken by this lens, none are head shots, mind you, you will see that many people have already got it and taken advantage of this ability, instead of complaining about its soft corners.
