I agree with some of what you say here, but think its important to recognize that the question is between the two 135mm lenses. Given that, and owning both, my opinion is that the Zeiss truly is more versatile without question. I also use the Zeiss at f1.8 more than any other setting and find the DOF quite useable for a variety of portraits and low light performance. It is also AF which makes a massive difference, as much as peaking really helps me focus the STF.

So. As I said before, the choice between the two 135s really needs careful review of what you want it for. T4.5 manual focus lens vs f1.8 AF lens are important differences. I've added links to my examples taken with each lens below. I love the STF. It challenges me to seek out compositions that make it shine. It takes time and practice to get the shot right, not to mention a very close eye on your manual focusing!!
