Thanks guys! I think Win must allow you to just start over-writing the space on which trash-designated items reside, whereas Mac insists you confirm your trash really is trash before over-writing.
Maybe their analogy is the difference between the wastebasket in your home (still accessible) vs the dumpster (accessible only by urban divers) and the landfill (inaccessible).
Therefore, it could be said that Windows is okay with you having a stack of pizza boxes in the corner...
