The lens is cheap so get your expectation right. Also knowing how to get the most out of a lens helps.

Fortunately, in Australia where I currently reside, consumer protection legislation has for many years declared that any item offered for sale, whatever the cost, must be fit for its intended purpose.

When shooting at f2 on a lens designed for f1.8 operation one could expect reasonably sharp pics across the field, or sharp in centre and reasonably evenly unsharp towards the edges.  That's "normal" for most lenses wide open.

A lens as I have shown now, which is sharper on the sides than it is in the centre (although I haven't shown those comparison shots) and suddenly snaps into focus at f3.5 when it's quite blurry across the frame at wider apertures, is hardly fit for purpose.   As it is, at f3.5 the sides are sharper than the centre.  Unusual?  Probably not for Pentax.

I'm trying for another copy - I was in Melbourne today briefly but didn't have enough time to call in at CRK.
