Conclusion - returning the lens
In reply to Ceridan, 1 month ago

So I had contacted the Sigma international support describing the problem and I was told the local service would correct the problem for me. Exchanging a few e-mails with the local company performing warranty services for Sigma (not very nice guys anyway) showed that they perform only correction for the central focus point. The current situation being the central point tends to has slight front-focus while the outer points have back-focus, correction would result into actually worsening the overall situation.

So I'll return the lens and either try another one of just live with my current lens configuration weeping for not buying a Canon body, which could be equipped with their 17-55mm f/2.8.
