All cameras have their strengths and weaknesses. Knowing those strengths and weaknesses is part and parcel of knowing the craft of photography (as opposed to the art of it). Thank you for the knowledgable comparison of the two cameras.

That said, hopefully, someone will eventually develop a camera or system that shines in all areas. Digital capture has already surpassed film, by a long shot (maybe not in DR, specifically, but as image-capture devices, generally). For now, I believe Pentax and Oly offer the best product features at comparatively reasonable prices.

No matter the camera, if the scene has broad DR, bracket the hell out of it, if you can (as you indicated, critters don't pose for the camera, so that's not always an option).

If you get a good clear shot of this bird, please post it.
