Which prime with oly 45mm for awesome combo?
May 27, 2014

G'day guys

I own an olympus E-M5 with the kit 12-50mm lens. I also have the oly 45mm lens, sigma 30mm f2.8 MK1, 35mm macro four third lens and the 40-150mm MK1 four thirds lens.

I have a 4 year old boy and have twins on the way (yikes!!) so I'll mostly be taking pictures of my kids and just general scenes; hopefully local camping holidays. I have recently sold my precious panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens as its AF is quite slow and very noisy during video. I am also going to sell the sigma and 40-150mm lenses as I don't use them and they're poor in low light.

So, the question is should I get the:

  • Olympus 17mm f1.8 or the
  • Olympus 25mm f1.8?

I'm not sure whether the 25mm will be too close to the 45mm in terms of focal length or the 17mm will be too wide... I'm thinking I could use the 12-50mm lens I go wide.

What do you guys think? 45mm + 17mm or 45mm + 25mm for the ultimate prime combo for predominately taking pictures of the family.

Thanking you in advance.

Perth, Australia.
