How to focus in the dark
May 21, 2014

This is a shot I took while camping this weekend.  I've never really tried to take star photographs before, and found it fairly difficult due to focusing.

The problem was that I needed a 30s exposure to get this, and there was so little light that  in live view the frame was essentially black.

Because of this, I had n way to focus. I guessed by just putting it on infinity (or close to it), but as you can see, the stars are fairly out of focus - they are essentially circles.

How does everyone focus when they can't see what they are focusing on?
