Just saying... I started with a Sony A100. Basic DSLR, few focus points, limited ISO range, and went on shopping just when my experience have surpassed that particular camera.

But that has helped me to really appreciate every step in the upgrade ladder (both in camera gear, and in photography skills that were achieved along the years)

I don't think you are being 'not nice'.

"Why did you buy a D4s to learn?" is a reasonable question. Clearly the answer is, (s)he had the money.

Actually it may be smarter in the long run since upgrading gear makes money go poof . Rarely can you sell gear for what you paid, especially entry-level gear.

Yes, a series of upgrades is more common but not better if you have the funds to skip over the steps.

I for one am a bit jealous.
