Then you haven't seen the images I posted in this forum from my DA14-45 or the Sigma 17-70

Can you think of a mechanism where by the QC failure would result in a left / right differential in focus?   Of course not, decentering would likely not have any preference.   If anything you would see a top / bottom shift as gravity causes the front element to sag relative to the body of the lens / camera.

There is no front element to sag in a prime like there is in an extending zoom.

Many of the primes I had previously were also skewed.

The majority had more DOF (sometimes twice as much or even more) on one side than the other but in many cases it was also skewed so that at maximum aperture one side could never be in focus if the centre and other side were.
