The Zeiss is over priced no doubt. For $1000 you get plastic threads so the build is hardly the BEST.

The good news:

  • Constant aperture @f4
  • 24-105mm which is 30mm beyond the kit lenses.
  • Very solid build despite the plastic.
  • Coated optic

Well, I took today another series of the 1670 versus 1650PZ on the A6000 and well, they surely show that the 1670 is even at f8 a much better lens! At 16mm the edges are much less unsharp and even far from the edges IQ is still much better. Will post some on the blog soon.....

The yellowish coating versus the cool blue of the Sony inhouse lenses shows, although I'd prefer the latter.

I got my 1670 at 800 Euros and consider it a fair price for the IQ and finish. The AF is silent and very fast, delivering an improvement even on the oldest Nex bodies such as my 5N :-).

And thats not counting the blue label bragging rights
