Sony's microelectronics business is also dying
2

I did not know that. It is a usual refrain here that although Sony quickly loses market share in TVs, computers, cameras... you name it... it sells sensors to many buyers so its microelectronics business must be doing fine.

Now I am sitting here analyzing trends in microelectonics industry (I am just curious), it is generally looking pretty good, but Sony...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_sales_leaders_by_year

2008 -13.7%

2009 -35.7%

2010 +16.9% (rebound from recession, with Samsung doing +59% etc)

2011 -1.4%

2012 +20%

2013 -28.1% (WTF?)

All in all, between 2007 and 2013 its market share went from 3% of the market to just 1.4%, more than a half lost, and now below such "giants of industry" as MediaTec and NXP.

Panasonic is even worse, not even in top 20 since 2012.

Sigh.
