Although it probably seems big if you've never used a telephoto type lens before, with all respect.. the Tamron 150-600 is a very small light lens compared to the prime telephotos like 500, 600mm lenses that wildlife photogs carry around. Any backpack will be more than comfortable for your tamron, I am sure... and there really is no need for a monopod or tripod for a lens like that. Save yourself the trouble and cumbersomeness of carrying such items. A light lens is very easy to handhold and i am sure you will enjoy the freedom of doing so.
