That's a great question – I'd need to look it up. I used the joystick  for focus point selection, and often just in zone mode (i.e., choosing one of three focus "groups"). You also use the joystick for menu navigation and selection – there's a button-type function embedded in the joystick.

Upon reflection, it's actually perfectly designed for my use – I've had the A77 since it's release other than a brief 30-day period where I thought I had sold it (to fund moving to 43rds). As luck would have it, the sale fell through right as I was struggling with C-AF on the E-M1.
