dust specks inside 40-150: what to do?
May 14, 2014

A few minutes ago I pulled the Olympus 40-150 4–5.6 lens out of the drawer to clean it up, so I can post it for sale. And I noticed that it had a dust spot that couldn't be blown off. At first it was just one, but after a minute of careful wiping microfiber cloth and blowing with Giotto's blower, it suddenly had two. Here's a pic:

The specks are in the lower left quarter of the lens, near the word "Olympus".

How does this happen? I had something similar happen just once before, with a Sigma lens for APS-C. I think I take rather good care of my lenses, and this lens has scarcely been used.

More important, is there anything I can do about this? It doesn't seem to have any effect at all on photos taken with the lens, but of course if I can't remove the speck I'll have to draw attention to it when I post it on Amazon or here, and that will mean cutting my price at least a little.

Any suggestions gratefully considered.
