I also have the Tamron 18-270mm lens, and have been very happy with it.  If you are buying new, I would suggest waiting for the 16-300mm Tamron.

HOWEVER - if you are also considering the 18-135mm lens, I would strongly suggest having a look at the 16-105mm Sony lens.

One is a bit wider, the other is a bit longer - which matters to you depends on your shooting style.  My suggestion is because I have read a LOT of really good things about this lens, and think it would be worth researching.  If the length is sufficient, it may be a sharper lens than the 18-135, if some of the reports reflect what real world usage.
