Rented Scanner, no TIFF support

I have 100s of family fotos to scan and I rented a Kodak PS50 for that purpose. I just set it up and it and realized that the Kodak scanning software doesn't allow for images to be saved in TIFF format. It allows for saving jpegs under a "superior" setting that came out to ~64MB for a 6x8.5 image.

The scanner rental came with a computer and the windows account doesn't have permission to install other software on the laptop. I tried connecting the scanner to my own mac laptop but it doesn't seem to recognize it; perhaps because it has a hardware key.

Should I be concerned with not being able to save the images as TIFFs or am I making too big of a deal about it? A lot of the photos are 40-70yrs old and I'd was hoping to keep some good "master" versions.
