Manual shooting question

Lately I have been shooting in Manual mode and Auto ISO for birds and wildlife. I set the SS to 1000-2000 and shoot at f8 on my Nikon 300mm f4 because I have read this is where the lens is sharpest...by doing this the ISO is higher that at f4.

My question is will I get just as good of sharpness if I use Manual Mode f4 with an Auto ISO? The Camera is a D7000
