D800: One mode (P/A/S/M) to rule them all?
  • Manual mode + Auto ISO = the most intuitive mode for me. I choose shutter (1/250 for the playing child), aperture (for DOF control), the ISO is automatic. This works great until I go outside in the sun where this overexposes (too much light even at ISO 100), so I have to reduce shutter time.
  • Aperture mode = Saves me from overexposure in the sun, but is less comfortable because I indirectly control the shutter time via ISO.
  • Program mode with Auto or Manual ISO = Seems strange to me. Sometimes turning the command dial doesn't change anything.

I'd need something like manual mode, but which reduces shutter in too much light. I want to control the exact aperture and the minimum shutter time (faster never hurts for me), ISO should be automatic.

How do you handle this?
