Why there is no cheap wide angle lenses for DSLR?

As far as I understand, wide angle lenses for SLR cameras are expensive because of the long distance between lens and sensor requires more expensive retrofocus design.

I wonder why it is no possibility for modern DSLR cameras to lock up mirror and use conventional wide angle lens design, where lens occupies the mirror space and gets closer to the sensor. It would still be possible to compose image from LCD screen and autofocus would still work like for bridge cameras. Besides, you will have all the time in the world to compose and focus your shots for landscapes anyway.

What do you think? Am I missing something or there just isn't enough market for this type of lenses?
