When a lens is mounted on the camera it will be at maximum aperture (f/2.8). It stops down to the selected aperture when the photo is taken (or the DOF preview is pressed). With a manual lens you can only shoot in 'A' (aperture priority), or 'M' modes, and you must select the aperture using the aperture ring on the lens, the camera cannot select the aperture.

Now that the technical details are out of the way, What metering mode are you using? Matrix, Center Weighted, or Spot.

When using manual mode centering the meter does not mean you are going to get the correct exposure.

Hi Michael,

Yes that's what I thought. I have only been able to change aperture on the lens itself and it's always done a pretty good job and finding the right exposure. Now however, the metering is all off.

I was told this on another forum, which was the first time I heard something like this:

"You need to leave your lens aperture ring alone, setting it at the smallest aperture (f/22). Then use the control wheels on the camera to modify your aperture setting."

Metering is at Matrix mode, also looked at bracketing which is set at 0.
