The inconsistancy of digital cameras
May 9, 2014

Maybe someone from the film era can provide some information here, but it seems to me that in that era if you used a certain brand film then you could expect to get the same results no matter what camera you used.

But with digital, you get different results from brand to brand and even within the same brand between models.  They all have different tone curves and contrast, and vastly different rendition of color.  I find this very annoying.

As a jpg shooter I must fine tune every camera I buy to get anywhere near the same results.  This is not improved by using raw as these forums are awash with people getting varied results from different raw software and defaults, often requiring feedback from others on how to get a decent output.

Is this as good as it gets, when can I expect to be able to buy a new camera and it works to a known standard out of the box.
