Sort of had that problem last night with my wife's new iPad ...

When you turn it on and set it up, you need to sign into your Apple account (a clever disguise for an iTunes account).

To download an app, even a free one, however, you have to go one step further and answer your security questions.  Which of course my wife had no recollection of.

Took a half hour of using the self help support to determine that I had to call Apple, then 1 hour on hold.  Five minutes to fix it after that.

At least the young woman on the line was chipper and helpful, despite the old fart (me that is, not my wife) that she had to deal with.

How about requiring a camera to log on to the internet when first turned on before it will function further and register with the manufacturer's servers as 'activated'?
