I live just 4-5 miles from the North Yorkshire moors national park, this includes a few "dales" which you may not know about by researching the north Yorkshire dales national park which lies to the west. The Stokesley to Hemlington road the B1257 traverses some beautiful scenery though Bilsdale, there is a castle at Helmsley and the road passes Rieviaulx Abby a Cistercian ruin. You can look up the Abbys in North Yorkshire here, Fountains Abby is not to be missed http://www.britainexpress.com/counties/yorkshire/abbeys/index.htm

The village of Great Ayton is the childhood home of Captain James Cook the Great explorer. If you want a good hike try this, http://www.walkingenglishman.com/northyorkshire11.htm

By the way the Stokesly to Hemlington road is also known as the Helmsly TT route after the Isle of Man TT, it attracts many Bikers, some of whom don't return home.

Hope this is of help to you on finding locations, have a nice holiday and bring waterproofs, it's almost always sunny here but it can rain sometimes.
