Yes.

When I first took on this type of subject I accepted the ghosting and diffraction tendencies of the 9-18, 12/2, etc.   When I used a CV 35/1.4 for hand held nights, I noticed a quality difference.  Eventually I became more obsessed with finding a wide angle with the same that the MF CV lens offered.   The Heliar 12/5.6 did that, though it's not v.good at the edges of the frame (a one trick pony, for my purposes).

Even the outstanding 12-40/2.8 leaves something to be desired (look at the lights along the shore, rather granular, though they look fine viewed 'normally'.
